The potential cost of safety violations is much greater than the cost of safety programs and prevention. Compensation claims for head injuries are particularly costly. Where engineering and other solutions are not totally effective, personal protection equipment (PPE) is the last line of defense against injury. Head and face protection is critical. Hazards and potential injuries must be carefully assessed and suitable equipment provided. PPE training is necessary and it must be consistently used and maintained. Safety programs to identify and prevent equipment drops from high places also have a key role in protecting against head injuries.
