The EPA has selected the first chemicals to enter its hazardous chemical review process according to the recently amended Toxic Substances Control Act.  Ten chemicals currently in commercial use were named from a working list of 90 substances selected on the basis of their hazardous properties and the likely amount of human exposure.  The list includes trichloroethane in specific uses such as dry cleaning.  As each evaluation is completed a different substance or specific use will enter the process so that ten substances or specific uses are under consideration at all times.
