Wearable devices connected to the internet can increase worker safety by tracking the position and movements of workers in potentially hazardous environments. A person wearing a device may enter a dangerous area, or may show signs of sleepiness or movements associated with injury. Wearable devices may show that toxic gases are present, alerting the person wearing them, or they may give warning when a person has not moved for some time. In addition to real-time alerts wearable devices can provide data for workplace analytics that are useful in preventing future incidents. Wearables also may be used to cultivate a culture of safety, giving evidence that a company or organization is committed to the welfare of its workers.
