Three non-government advocacy groups, the Environmental Health Strategy Center, the Healthy Building Network and Safer Chemicals. In particular, they noted that six of the chemicals, asbestos, 1-bromopropane (NPB), carbon tetrachloride (CTC), hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD), N-methyl pyrrolidine (NMP), and methylene chloride (DCM), which are under some manufacturing restrictions in the US, are still widely imported to this country. Asbestos, a hazardous substance which the EPA was unable to ban under TSCA, is 99% imported from Brazil. In some cases chemical imports were not reported to the government as required by TSCA.
