Researchers in chemistry and the life sciences use of tens of thousands of different reagents. The reactivity of any given pair or group of reagents may not be well known or completely predictable. To aid researchers the Pistoia Alliance, a non-profit organization with the mission of promoting research in both industry and academic institutions, has started a chemical safety library (CSL) meant to enable researchers to share information about hazardous incidents that have occurred in the process of mixing and reacting chemicals. In the past an incident at one laboratory might not be widely known because institutions had no means to share such knowledge or to search for it in offline sources.
