The first line of protection for workers in the chemical industry is process design:  to remove the possibility of chemical exposure in the tasks that must be done. Suppliers of personal protection equipment can help identify hazard areas and appropriate clothing.  Where no standard matches the type and length of exposure that may occur employers may need to test both the environment and the available protective clothing.  If the clothing supplied is not comfortable and easy to use worker compliance may lag and the hazard is not avoided.
